Ready for adventure

Our Navigation course might be everyone’s favourite part of the Summer term at Saint Andrew’s OC school. Once a fortnight pupils spend a day ‘lost’ in the wild (Pentland hills): learning how to read a map, use a compass, plan a route, and find their way in Scotland’s beautiful hills. They use their math skills, their observation skills, their discussions and cooperation skills. Math lesson, P.E, nature studies, health and well-being and history lessons come together into a wonderful multi-disciplinary fun-time. They learn about the nature around them, they visit historical sites hidden under heather, they observe the seasons. They hike across at least 10 miles on each trip! But best of all, they enjoy the outdoors, they run free with the birds, rejoice in nature, and enjoy their picnic and games in the fresh air.
